This eight-panel segmented portrait borders on the abstract, and is covered with Biblical text from the Book of Revelation.
An acrylic and varnish painting
on canvas featuring a portrait
of Mrs. Helen Higgins. The text refers to the Proverbs 2:18 passage — For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.
This acrylic and varnish painting features a portrait of Mr. Clarence Meyer, and integrates the Biblical passage Philippians 3:2 — Beware of dogs, beware
of evil workers, beware of
the concision.
Featuring a portrait of Mrs. Alma Geason, this acrylic and varnish painting contains text from the Biblical verse Revelation 1:7 — Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even
so, Amen.
Utilizing the concept that
people of a similar belief system are unified, I visually represented
the idea literally — by taking facial features from many parish members and combining them into a single finished portrait.
Similar in concept to Collective Parishioners 1 – 4, although created in black and white only. The center painting is 40 x 40 inches, flanked by two 24 x 24 inch canvases.
Most works in the series utilize neutral or black and white color palettes. However, a few pieces, including this pair of 40 x 40 inch acrylic paintings, have vibrant color usage, which help to create really interesting visual relationships during larger exhibitions.
